Every year, new trends come, and old styles fade. While we’re never a fan of super trendy styles that will be in and out quickly, it’s always good to know what the design world is saying yes to before you start your next bathroom remodel. We’ve tried to cover 9 styles that are in this year, but won’t be out next year. These should last for years and years to come, while keeping your design style on the cutting edge.
Top 9 Bathroom Design Styles
Scandinavian Style
Scandinavian style is at the top of my list this year for bathroom design trends, and I for one am happy to see it! It is a very simple, yet chic, design style. Scandinavian style can be defined by design and furniture pieces that are functional, and simple in form. It has a hint of modernism and is a minimalistic style in an of itself. Natural materials are often used and many neutral colors.
Retro Style
The retro style is another hot look for bathroom design trends. Retro style is a style that is derived from recent past. It can be the 80’s, 70’s, 60’s, etc. I love retro style. There are usually distinct elements that make up this style, especially depending on the era it’s taken from. Some of my favorites use bright colors and mid-century modern lines.
3.Wood
So happy to see wood being featured in bathroom design! You may be shocked by this one. We’ve grown up believing that tile is the only choices for bathrooms, and while tile is a great choice with a lot of versatility, you CAN use wood in the bathroom. You just need to use the right type and in the right way. This wood planked shower may seem crazy, but think about docks and other platforms that are exposed to water, snow and heavy traffic. Think about many saunas. If you want to use wood in your bathroom, do your research, seal it properly, and get a professional installation to be safe.
Dark Colors
You could love or hate this bathroom design trend. For many, dark colors are soothing. Calming. Modern. To others they might be depressing or scary. While this trend might not be for everyone, we are definitely seeing it around more this year than in recent years. Dark colors contrasting with white porcelain is a great way to make a statement!
Sleek Faucets
The more modern look seems to be coming back with bathroom design trends this year. The sleek chrome faucets look more like little sculptures than pieces of plumbing. Luckily, we can have beautiful, functional pieces of art cleaning our hands every day because of it! Who said we can’t find beauty in the simple things?
Octagon and Geometric Tile
Another step towards the modern style, we have geometric shapes playing a big part in bathroom design this year. I absolutely love this look! You feel like you’re in a clean, visually interesting honeycomb. There are so many looks to choose from, you can really get creative with it.
Organic Neutrals
While you don’t have to go full on Scandinavian or even use real wood in your bathroom, you can tie in some of the elements that you love from those styles to create a very organic space for your home. Neutral, natural, or industrial style materials are definitely making a comeback this year.
Minimalism
Overall, you may have noticed a general theme. Minimalism is in. Simple, functional, organic, natural, neutral, sleek, clean, fresh. Those are the adjectives I would use to describe the top bathroom design trends of 2017. Just keep it simple! Less is more these days. Make your bathroom the sanctuary you’ve always dreamed it could be.
