One of my favorite events of the year is Homearama, which comes every July. Homearama is an event featuring many new construction homes, which showcases the latest and greatest trends in building and interior design. This is a great way to see what the hot items will be for the year, and see some of the incredibly beautiful spaces that the builders and designers put together.
Today, I’ll be showing you what we found to be the top bathroom trends at Homearama 2017 at Poplar Woods. If you’re in the market for a new construction home or remodeling your bathroom, you might be able to use some of these great ideas!

Homearama Bathroom Trends:

Freestanding Tubs

One of my absolute favorite trends in bathroom design from Homearama is the emergence of freestanding tubs. You typically won’t see standard tubs in master bathrooms anymore. They’re really only found in kids bathrooms these days. I for one don’t mind a bit. They’re larger than most regular tubs. They’re called soaker tubs for a reason, you can really stretch out and they are much more comfy on your back.  They also look like an art piece in your bathroom!

Walk In Showers

Due to the lack of master bathroom shower/tub combos, we see many more walk in showers. The showers we’re seeing are HUGE and tiled from top to bottom. Mesh back tile is featured on the floor, and a mosaic tile is usually used as an accent or to cover the walls.

Hexagon Tile

Hexagon tile was a trend at KBIS and Homearama last year, but I don’t wish it out of style any time soon. It’s a classic shape that adds geometric interest to your space. It looks great on the floor of your bathroom, in small format or large, and can be found often on shower floors or as shower accents. You can see it below and on the two shower floors above!

Herringbone Tile Patterns

Herringbone has also been popular in recent years and looks like it’s here to stay. Herringbone pattern tile can come in all shapes, sizes and materials. We saw a lot of glass mesh back wall tile, as well as some herringbone pattern marble floor tile, among other things. It’s a great look for any bathroom! You can see it above in the accent strip, and below.

Large Format Tile & Large Format Subway Tile

Large format tile, specifically large format subway tile has become popular recently, but we saw it EVERYWHERE at Homearama this year. It flooded the shower walls and surrounded the bath tubs. Large format tile is anything that is larger than 15″ on any side. You’ll see it in almost every shower featured above. Large format subway tile is typically 4×16 as opposed to the typical 3×6. It makes the space look bigger and goes up much quicker than smaller format subway tile and it’s such a classy look!

Wallpaper

One trend from Homearama that I’ve seen in other rooms in previous years has now made it’s way to the bathroom – Wallpaper! It’s definitly making a comeback. I for one love wallpaper, and it can really add a punch of personality to your space. Most of the time you’ll find it in the powder room, although you can use it in whichever bathroom you want!

Neutrals – Cabinets & Countertops & Flooring

The main thing I spotted at Homearama bathrooms this year is the clean neutrals on just about every surface. The painted vanities were usually in white, often in grey, and sometimes in black or beige. White countertops with grey or black veining was prevelant, and the tile in the showers and on the floor were neutrals as well. However, they still managed to pull of a lot of personality! Your colors don’t have to be bold in order to have style.
