Rustic Bathroom Vanities To Upgrade Your Outhouse

Rustic bathroom style is in right now, and I for one am thrilled. Rustic bathrooms are so cozy, unique and nostalgic. It takes the best of nature, farmhouse chic, and craftsman characteristics and combines them to take a sometimes cold feeling space and makes it feel warm. Here are a few examples of unique rustic bathroom vanities that will upgrade your outhouse in a flash!

1. The Live Edge Slab Rustic Bathroom Vanity

A live edge is when a slab of wood has not been cut on all sides and the natural edge of the tree is visible. This is an incredible feature to have in your home, whether it is your bathroom vanity, your kitchen countertop, island top, or kitchen table. It can be used in so many ways and is fairly affordable! Look for a local lumber yard to help you out. Now, just find the perfect vessel, undermount or drop in sink and you’ve got a rustic look instantly!

2. Bourbon Barrel Bathroom Vanity

Living in Kentucky, Bourbon Barrels are a big part of our culture and heritage. We live in Bourbon country, and we’re proud of it. One great way to pay homage to our great state is by using bourbon barrels as a bathroom vanity! You can use an undermount or drop-in sink, but the easiest would be a vessel sink, as you only need to drill one small hole, and not much more. Regardless of where you live, this is a great rustic touch for a bathroom.

3. James Martin Driftwood Double Vanity

James Martin Furniture Style Vanities are some of the most well made, beautiful pieces that we’ve seen for bathrooms. One style called “Savannah Driftwood” Is one of my very favorites for the rustic feel that it brings. Shop James Martin Vanities 50% off or more in our store today! Quantities are limited for many styles, but we can always custom order any James Martin Vanity that interests you.

4. Industrial Farm Trough Bathroom Vanity

This is such a creative idea! You definitely need some space to pull off this bathroom vanity, but how unique! Finding an old farm trough may be the hardest part, but after that, simply create some wood countertops, polyurethane of course, and add a stainless steel undermount sink (found here). Voila! Rustic bathroom accomplished.

5. Distressed Dresser Bathroom Vanity

One of my favorite rustic bathroom vanity ideas is to take an old antique dresser, update it (or not) and add a vessel sink. It is pretty easy and painless. It adds a beautiful farmhouse chic feel to your bathroom that you just can’t find brand new.

Builders Surplus offers many bathroom vanity sink options. While many of our in stock and custom order products are online, the best deals are found in store. Quantities are limited, so stop by today! Bathroom Vanities in Louisville, Bathroom Vanities in Newport and Bathroom Vanities in Cincinnati are also available daily!

Small Bathroom: Choosing the Right Vanity & Tile

A small bathroom is one of the worst things on the planet. I remember the one in my first apartment, there was barely any space to move, you had to close the door to open the vanity cabinet but you also had to stand off to the side or sit on the toilet sideways so you didn’t hit your shins! There are many different factors that can keep someone from being able to do much about a small bathroom; whether it be that you’re stuck in an apartment and can’t make any structural changes or you own your own home, but you don’t have the budget to do a full bathroom remodel at the moment.
Small Bathroom: Monochromatic Color Scheme
Updating your tile and replacing your vanity are a couple of the easiest and most inexpensive ways that you can make your bathroom appear more open. We’ve got some tips and tricks on how you can utilize these to make your cramped bath appear “bigger on the inside.”
Shop-Now-Vanities

Be Basic

Simplicity is key when you’re wanting to make a small bathroom feel bigger! Skip the highly decorative and opt-in for more simplistic shapes and styles. In a space like this, less is more.
The subway tile look is super popular, and it’s a really basic look that’s also classy. However, what needs to be remembered with tile is size. Go for larger format tile – the less lines and grout, the better. This creates a longer line that isn’t broken up which makes the space appear larger because the pattern is continuous.
There are two ways to go with vanities her. You can choose a pedestal sink and be really minimal, but if you must have some storage space choose a floating single-sink vanity or one with open shelves instead of cabinets or drawers. A floating vanity will open up the floor space, which breaks up the space less, while an open vanity (shelves instead of drawers) moves your eye through the room and makes you think about what you really need in your bath.
Small Bathroom: Floating Vanity

Color is Key

This goes along with keeping it simple. When it comes to color in a small space you want to choose a single color or monochromatic theme. Brighter colors work best in small spaces, especially whites – plus white is classy!
Select bright, glossy white tile or backsplash that is bigger than the palm of your hand at least (remember go big or go home with the whole tile selection). If you have a light color scheme that isn’t white then keep your tile selection in that hue, it’ll still make the room feel bigger. However, it’s a little more complicated where you already have a dark bath. When you have a dark space that you can’t completely overhaul you can still choose a lighter wall tile or backsplash. Remember, you want to try to break up the colors and patterns as little as possible!
Small Bathroom: Contrasting Vanity
Lighter vanities are often less popular because bathrooms are already pretty bright so a vanity is the perfect piece to contrast lighter colors! This is where you can have some fun if you want to. Keep the vanity white (or whatever single color the rest of your bathroom is) especially if it’s one with drawers and cabinets, this breaks up the space less and makes a small bathroom feel larger. If you think you can spare to have some color feel free to contrast the room with a darker vanity, however, this will work best with an open style shelf vanity.

Choosing Wall Tile to Match Bathroom Vanities

Hola! Alright, so you have your brand new, fresh-out-of-the-wrapping bathroom vanity. It’s placed properly, fastened tight to the interior wall, and maybe you’ve even hooked up the plumbing to the sink along with the countertop. In essence, you’ve never been more excited to wash your hands before in your life. After doing so, that next thought springs into your head, the next step to really put that finishing touch on your vanity – what wall tile will look best? Well, luckily, I’m here to tell you of a couple of options to choose from. And it can be as simple (or as complex) as you’d like it to be!

Contrasting Light Tile to Dark Vanity

If you really want to accentuate your vanity, I’d suggest going with a light-colored tile. The pictures above demonstrate how a lighter tile can make your vanity pop, giving it the proper attention it needs. Contrast in any design platform plays with a viewer’s eyes a bit and is perfect for redirecting or emphasizing a particular piece. Notice how the wall tile from the picture on the left contains smaller dark tiles, as well. We’ll get to this a bit later, but it brings out the darker tone of the vanity, giving a nice blend to the whole bathroom. The picture in the middle sports a classy white tile, and the vanity’s contrast sets it apart, but it works! Never be afraid in the effects of contrast. It adds visual interest and appeals to the eye. Uniformity and blending definitely has its perks, but this design element is simply too attractive to dismiss. Literally.

A Blending of Colors

Sometimes going with the grain just makes sense. As you can see, the pictures above exemplify that statement perfectly. Matching wall tile with the color of your vanity gives your bathroom design a sense of unity and can make for a stunning visual effect. The first picture displays a marvelous, antique-style vanity. The soft brown hue of the wall tile allows the entire display to streamline the eye’s focus in unison. In essence, it’s a beautiful blend of style and color. The picture in the middle is my personal favorite, though. But I’m a sucker for the natural pine stain color, so there’s no surprise there. Notice how the wall tile really hones that color in and makes it shine. Now, earlier I told you how a wall tile can bring out a color in a vanity. The picture on the right is a prime example of how a subtle blend between the vanity and wall color can make your primary color jump out at you! Like an exclamation point. At Builder’s Surplus, we offer a cast of tile brands that will help you pull of this look. We’ll help you in the design process and make sure your vision becomes a reality.

The Products to Choose

Daltile is one of the best products in the business, in my opinion, but you don’t have to take my word for it. You’ve just glanced at their product, and I’m willing to bet you liked what you saw. But, see, that’s the thing about Daltile – there’s so much to choose from. I think we can all agree that when it comes to home restoration/renovation, variety is essential, right? Daltile’s selection is bar none, yes, but it’s the quality that really sets this product from the rest. Established since 1947, the company has acquired a tremendous reputation for their innovative ideas, and it’s directly reflected in their designs. And you know what the best part is? This awesomely legit product is available through special order at Builders Surplus. Come talk to us in person or set something up so we can get things rolling on your bathroom remodel! You can do so here.

How a Double Vanity Can Save Your Marriage

Today, we’ll be sharing a marriage secret that you may not hear often: the power of the double vanity.
couplebathroom

The Problem: The Single Sink Struggle

If you have a bathroom vanity with one single sink, then you know that the struggle is real. You are constantly sharing an often cramped space with your partner, brushing elbows, brushing teeth, trying to avoid their spit and rinse, and the worst thing for women – when your makeup and hair session is so rudely interrupted. Men, I’m sure you have constantly had thoughts of harming your partner (Just a friendly smack on the tush I hope) after finding makeup stains and balls of hair so large you wondered when your dog learned to jump up on the vanity top. The competition for the sink can bring out a side of you that you didn’t even know existed. Not to mention getting out of bed 20 minutes early (God forbid) just to avoid the morning congestion. Many couples have failed in their marriage due to this huge imposition and strain on their time and emotions. Well, maybe not for this reason alone, but I’m sure it was a very large contributing factor. Do you want to end up like those couples? I didn’t think so. Just the fact that you’ve taken the first step to reading this article shows that you are very capable of change, so give yourself a pat on the back.

Shop-Now-Vanities
The Solution: The Double Vanity Victory

A double vanity in your bathroom serves a purpose much larger than just a piece of plumbing. For women, it is a sacred place where their beauty, brushing, and blowing routine occurs. As all of us know, this is not the most cleanly process. For me personally, I have a massive maine, and unfortunately, shedding is a very real problem. This is an issue that my husband, who like a real man often cleans the bathroom for me, never fails to complain about. I guess other people’s hair is just not that appealing. Who knew? With a double vanity boasting TWO incredible sinks, the hair stays on my side, allowing me the pleasure of cleaning it myself and giving him the pleasure of never having to almost accidentally touch it.

In addition, makeup is a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it. As all women know, we have bronzer that breaks, eyebrow pencil shavings that don’t make it to the trash can, blush that leaves a light dusting and foundation that always finds a way onto your vanity top. This is just the name of the game, and we all know it’s not likely to change any time soon. Like the hair issue, my makeup madness stays on my side, and he gets to put me on his pedestal once again as the clean, organized, delicate creature that he married (yeah, that’s me!)
My male counterpart has issues of his own too, let me tell you. For whatever reason, he has an idea that shaving his beard over the sink is 1. Ok, and 2. Doesn’t need to be cleaned (or cleaned well). Trying to wash my face while staring at a lump of beard shavings is enough to make me want to vomit. I just can’t deal. Do what you want to your own sink, please, and don’t expose me to this disgusting display of laziness. At that moment, I realize how he feels about my hair. Well played, hubby, well played.
Then comes the issue of the toothpaste, as we ALL know well. To me, it seems easy to spit and rinse directly over the drain, but clearly that is not the case. The sticky white residue is one thing I have no desire to scrub off, unless heavy duty gloves are involved. Once more, this stays on his side and I keep my sanity.
Bathroom Vanities Double Vanity
A double vanity gives you the luxury of enjoying your morning routine with with love of your life without a battle for the mirror and throwing bows while brushing. The additional storage that a double vanity creates is a large added bonus, as women collect beauty products like men collect bourbon bottles. For those of you with kids, it will make the morning routine much easier, allowing the little ones access to two sinks instead of just one.
In most bathrooms, setting up the additional plumbing for a double vanity is not very difficult. Other than that, your task is simply to find a beautiful double vanity at a great price (Builders Surplus has some amazing choices, hint hint), decide on a vessel, undermount or drop in sink, and a perfect new vanity top. Bring them home, set them up, and you’ve saved the day. Simple as that.
Having your own space is crucial in marriage, and the bathroom is no different. A double vanity in your bathroom could make life easier, cleaner, and a much happier place in the home. What are you waiting for? Ditch your marriage counseling session today and find a double vanity instead! You’ll be glad you did.
